Fran Dramis

Former CIO, Bell South

Fran Dramis is the past Chief Information, Ecommerce, and Security Officer for BellSouth.
Mr. Dramis joined BellSouth Corporation in 1998. During his tenure BellSouth's IT and Security groups were nationally recognized as top organizations in their fields by receiving the following awards:

  • Top 10 in Diversity category - Computerworld's 100 Best Places to Work in IT (2004)

Before joining BellSouth, Mr. Dramis founded CIO Strategy, Inc., an information technology consulting firm. At that firm Mr. Dramis led technology transformation efforts at Citibank, Coopers and Lybrand, NASD, and Bankers Trust. Prior to CIO Strategy, Mr. Dramis was managing director and CIO at Salomon Brothers. Mr. Dramis also served as president and CEO of Network Management Inc. and president and chief operating officer of Telic Corporation. Early in his career, Mr. Dramis worked with AT&T, including Bell Labs, rising to the position of executive director of information product management.

As one of the country's leading IT leaders, Dramis has been recognized by a variety of publications as a top CIO. His awards include:

Because of his past CEO and CIO experiences Mr. Dramis has been sought after for public and private board positions. He is currently serving on the board of Avocent Corporation. He has previously served on the boards of webMethods Inc. and RealOps Inc. until their mergers were completed. He is also on several private company advisory boards including Amiga corp. Diabetech, Virma, and IOCOM.

William Crowell

Former Deputy Director, NSA

 

Crowell served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Santa Clara, California-based Cylink Corporation, a leading provider of e-business security solutions from November 1998 to February 2003, when Cylink was acquired by SafeNet, Inc., a Baltimore based VPN technology and security products company. He continues to serve as a consultant and member of the Federal Advisory Board at SafeNet.

Crowell came to Cylink from the National Security Agency, where he held a series of senior positions in operations, strategic planning, research and development, and finance. In early 1994 he was appointed as the Deputy Director of NSA and served in that post until his retirement in late 1997 From 1989 to 1990, Crowell served as a vice president at Atlantic Aerospace Electronics Corporation, now a subsidiary of Titan Systems, leading business development in space technology, signal processing and intelligence systems.

In April 1999, Crowell was appointed to the President’s Export Council (PEC), which advised the administration on trade and export policy. He served as chairman of the PEC Subcommittee on Encryption, which worked with the Administration, Congress and private industry to substantially loosen restrictions on the export of encryption products and technology.

Since 9/11 he has served on the Markle Foundation Task Force on National Security in the Information Age, which published three landmark studies on Homeland Security and information sharing and has also served on numerous panels to investigate and improve military command and control, intelligence and security systems. In August 2007 he was named Chairman of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Senior Advisory Group.

Crowell is an expert on network and information security issues. In May 2007 he co-authored the book, “Physical and Logical Security Convergence,” published by Elsevier. He has been quoted in many trade and business publications including the Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, USA Today, Information Week, Network World, Computer World, Federal Computer Week, CIO Magazine and the San Jose Mercury News. Crowell has also appeared on CBS MarketWatch, CNET News, CNBC and KNTV’s Silicon Valley Business. He was the technical advisor to the TV series, “Threat Matrix” during its run on ABC in the 2003 season.

Edward Zander

Former Chairman & CEO, Motorola

Edward J. Zander most recently was chairman of the board of Motorola, Inc. Since beginning at Motorola in January 2004, he has brought Motorola not only a wealth of experience, but a keen understanding of the emerging challenges and opportunities in the communications space. He has successfully reorganized the company, overseen the introduction of several exciting new products and sharpened Motorola's focus on innovation and operational efficiency. Zander entered his position with over 25 years of experience in the technology industry.

Prior to joining Motorola, Zander was a managing director of Silver Lake Partners, a leading private equity fund focused on investments in technology industries. Before that, he served as president and chief operating officer of Sun Microsystems until June 2002. During his tenure, Zander grew Sun to $18 billion in revenues, established it as the number-one company in the server market and built it into the pre-eminent supplier of network infrastructure. Earlier, Zander served as president of Sun's software group. Prior to joining Sun in 1987, he held senior management positions at Apollo Computer and Data General.

An active member of the civic and business communities, Zander serves on the board of directors of several professional, educational and non-profit organizations. Local business organizations include The Economics Club of Chicago, The Executive Club of Chicago and the Civic Committee of The Commercial Club of Chicago. He serves as a member of the Dean's Advisory Council of the School of Management at Boston University, Presidential Advisor at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and served on the board of directors for the Jason Foundation for Education.

Zander holds a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and a master's degree in business administration from Boston University.

Scott Helbing

Former CMO, AT&T Consumer Business

Scott Helbing is an experienced leader in the digital media world. Having a solid foundation which includes years of experience in building world class brands, driving competitive businesses, developing new business models and acting as a corporate change agent, he has spent the past three years focused on digital media and understanding the consumer’s needs and wants.

As the first officer selected to lead the AT&T Entertainment Services team, Scott’s vision helped build an organization charged with delivering a significant revenue stream for the corporation. The organization was the first of its kind in the telecom industry and featured a senior team of experienced executives, many from outside of AT&T. He also served as the CMO for the Consumer Business at AT&T prior to his assignment running Entertainment Services.

Prior to joining SBC (which became AT&T), Scott was the VP Global Brand Strategy at Dell. Again, being the first officer selected to hold this position, there was the proverbial “blank canvass” with regards to defining and building the Dell brand. As a result of the cleanly defined and executed brand tools (mission, architecture, naming, design,) strong executive leadership and breakthrough ad campaigns like “Steven”, Dell became the number One Most respected consumer brand (ahead of Apple, SONY, Nike, Coke) as reported by Interbrand, in 2001. The power of the Dell brand enhanced sales efforts in both the corporate and consumer spaces where Dell competed.

Scott has also worked extensively on a global basis in the QSR (restaurant) business and the athletic footwear & apparel industry, and domestically in the financial services, packaged goods, aviation (commercial airlines and private aviation), professional sports and publishing.

A graduate of the University of Colorado with a BS in Journalism, Scott serves on multiple boards and is a member of many organizations in the community.

Eileen Kamerick

CRO, TectaAmerica

As Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, Eileen Kamerick leads BearingPoint’s corporate finance and accounting operations globally. Prior to joining BearingPoint in May 2008, Eileen was EVP, CFO and Chief Administrative Officer at Heidrick & Struggles, a global provider of senior-level executive search and leadership consulting services, where she was responsible for strategic planning, financial reporting, investor relations, M&A, treasury and tax. She has served as senior legal and financial executive for several Fortune 500 companies, including Amoco, Whirlpool and Bcom3, the parent company of Leo Burnett and Starcom Media. During a career spanning nearly 25 years, Eileen has led successful business turnarounds, revenue growth and profitability initiatives, Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts and numerous corporate transactions. She began her career practicing law with the firm of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, where she concentrated on securities law and M&A. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Boston College, a law degree from The University of Chicago Law School and an MBA in finance and international business from The Graduate School of Business of The University of Chicago. She serves on the board of directors of Associated Bank, and she is active in philanthropic activities in the Chicago area.

Raghu Rau

Former Senior VP, Motorola

Raghu Rau is a creative, global management professional with strong operational, marketing and strategic leadership experience and relationships in the technology industry. He has an impressive record of bringing disruptive technologies to market and invests and advises start up companies in the Internet, mobile video and telecommunications space, internationally.

Rau was a Senior Vice President at Motorola Inc. until 2008, holding positions of increasing responsibility since 1992, in the USA, Europe and Asia. He won the coveted CEO Leadership Award in 2007 for his many accomplishments.

As the Chief Strategy Officer of Motorola's $13b Networks and Enterprise business, he directed the business to industry leading levels of profitability and leadership positions in new technologies such as WiMAX. He was involved in multiple acquisitions of both small and large companies, developing strategic industry alliances and optimizing multi billion dollar R&D investments.

As the Chief Marketing Officer of Motorola's Networks business he marketed its wireless and wire line solutions to carriers world wide, dramatically transforming the value proposition by changing the focus from Radio Access Network products to complete network solutions that included: packet core networks, soft switches, service delivery platforms and high value services. He also designed and successfully executed strategic marketing programs, new product launches and integrated communications plans using traditional and new media, winning industry awards.

Rau also led the Canopy Wireless Broadband business and doubled its revenues two years consecutively, while delivering double digit operating margins. He also led the centralized professional services organization substantially growing global revenues to about $ 1 b. He was also instrumental in winning over 55% market share for Motorola's infrastructure business in India when licenses were first awarded in 1994. Based for three years in London, he also helped in the significant turnaround of the networks business in the Europe, Middle East Africa region.

Before joining Motorola, Rau was the General Manager and Co founder of a telecommunications services company in Qatar and prior to that was the General Manager of a multinational in India.

Rau has served as the Chairman of the Quest Forum, the leading quality standards organization in the global telecommunications industry, the Board of the Center of Telecom Management at USC and the Motorola France Telecom partnership Board.

Rau has authored case studies on Global Marketing that have been taught at leading international universities and is a sought after speaker at industry and technology forums.

Rau has a Bachelors degree in Engineering and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.

John Parkinson

CTO, Transunion

John Parkinson joins the IOCOM Advisory Board as an advisor on key technical developments.  Further, Parkinson offers his expertise in overall corporate development.

Mr. Parkinson is a former Vice President and the Chief Technologist for Cap Gemini Ernst & Young LLC, Americas Region. As a member of the Strategy & Technology leadership team, Mr. Parkinson headed the Americas ’ Office of the CTO, setting direction for CGEY’s portfolio of Technology Consulting offers, promoting technology innovation, working with early adopter clients and defining career and competency models for CGE&Y’s technology consultants.

Previously Mr. Parkinson was a partner in the Strategy & Corporate Development Group at Ernst & Young LLP and the director for Innovation and Strategy for E&Y in the Americas Region. He was responsible for developing and delivering a vision of the future of professional services and a strategy for implementing that vision.

In addition Mr. Parkinson oversaw a portfolio of innovation projects and processes designed to redefine how a professional services firm operates. Prior to this role, he was chief technologist for E&Y’s Global eCommerce group and head of the eC Global Solutions team. Mr. Parkinson joined E&Y in the UK in 1985 and moved to the USA in 1991. He has degrees in mathematics and in information sciences from Exeter University , UK . He has been involved with the information technology (IT) business since 1969 and has worked in virtually all roles within IT from programmer to general manager of a software house. Mr. Parkinson has managed or directed business strategy, IS strategy, technology architecture, requirements analysis and large-scale systems development projects in the UK , USA , Europe and the Middle East and has consulted for some of the world’s leading technology companies.

Mr. Parkinson has written or edited four books on information systems development and has contributed over forty papers to conferences and journals. He is a frequent speaker at international meetings on innovation, eCommerce, knowledge management, emerging technologies and related topics. He has acted as the U.S. Consulting Unit’s CIO and led the programs that developed the Ernie online consulting service and innovative offerings in knowledge management and e-commerce.

Jeff Hughes

Former Executive Vice President of BSkyB (Sky)

Jeff Hughes is a leader in technology and media convergence. He is the former Executive Vice President of BSkyB (Sky) in London. Sky is a very successful satellite pay TV operator, broadband provider, telephony provider, and creator and supplier content to over 9 million households in the UK. While Executive Vice President, Jeff oversaw the creation of new business ventures and opportunities and sat on the overall executive committee of the company. Prior to this role Jeff was the Group Director for IT and Strategy (CIO) where he lead the technology teams within Sky. During this time he oversaw the technical implementation of Sky’s Broadband roll-out and network build, the creation of the new online platforms and portals, and the launch of an end to end CRM system. In addition he was responsible for all of the IT infrastructure and hardware for the company.

Prior to joining BSkyB Jeff was an executive at IBM. He was a successful program manager and IT transformation professional at PwC (which was later acquired by IBM) and has had many successful implementations throughout Europe and the UK. Jeff started his management consulting career at Andersen Consulting in the US and progressed rapidly through the ranks until reaching partner at IBM just before joining BSkyB.

Sherri Gilligan

Senior VP of Marketing & Advertising, MGM Mirage

Sherri joined the MGM MIRAGE team in late 2007 as Senior Vice President of Marketing & Advertising. In her role, she works closely with all the property marketing teams to fully leverage MGM MIRAGE’s unparalleled brand assets and drive greater customer loyalty and spending at all venues. Sherri oversees the areas of Marketing Analytics & Loyalty, Internet Marketing, Advertising, Media & Promotions, Productions Services & Electronic Design, Graphic Arts and Events.

Prior to MGM MIRAGE, Sherri worked at Sprint Nextel Corporation in Overland Park, Kansas, where she most recently served as Vice President of Marketing Strategy and Operations. In this role, Sherri was instrumental in driving the overall marketing strategy, research, analytics and operations for the corporation. During her more than 18 years of experience with Sprint Nextel, Sherri held several key management positions, including Vice President of Local and Channel Marketing, Vice President of Finance, Area Vice President of Sales for the Western Region, Vice President of Sales and Distribution Operations, as well as various director and manager-level positions. Before joining Sprint Nextel, Sherri worked for General Electric in Cleveland, Ohio where she also held several management positions.

Sherri earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Nebraska and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri in Kansas City.

Rick Stevens

Associate Lab Director, Argonne National Lab

Professor Stevens is the long time Head, Computing and Communications Futures Laboratory at Argonne National Laboratory, as well as the Leader of the Petascale Computing and Theory Initiative. Stevens has recently completed appointments as Associate Laboratory Directors for both Physical, Biological and Computing Sciences and Computing and Life Sciences.

Prof. Stevens is also a Committee Member of the Open Source Software for HPC PITAC Subcommittee, and a member of the University of Chicago's Computer Science Department and Division Director of its Mathematics and Computer Science Division.

Professor Stevens advises IOCOM on overall software development and architecture as well as the latest trends and needs in the research community.

Donald Law

Chairman, Venerable Partners

Donald Law is a seasoned professional services executive with a market validated track record as an advisor to senior management on issues related to senior level executive search, board recruiting, management succession and corporate governance. Prior to Venerable Partners, Donald Law served as a Managing Director in the Chicago office of Boyden Global Executive Search, with offices in more than 40 countries around the world. He established his reputation in the executive search industry at Russell Reynolds Associates where he first served as an Associate and then as Executive Director and co-leader of one of the most successful global technology search practices in the history of that firm. He has successfully managed the execution of numerous C-level and Board of Director assignments within the information technology sector. In doing so, Donald Law has worked closely with the senior management teams from many of the world’s most admired public and privately held companies in addition to many of the country’s most promising venture backed early stage technology companies. 

Prior to executive search, the majority of Donald Law’s career was spent with the IBM Corporation. At IBM, he worked in the company’s advanced technology organization, developing an astute understanding of complex data and telephony systems at IBM’s development facility in the heart of Silicon Valley. In creating one of the first Internet based solutions to be registered with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Law has been recognized for his insights into how corporations can leverage emerging technologies with their respective corporate strategies. 

Donald Law was recently featured in a cover story on Internet enabled marketing solutions in the Harvard Business School Bulletin with WPP Group’s Chairman & CEO, Sir Martin Sorrell and Harvard Business School Professor Alvin Silk. He was also responsible for leading one of the most significant analytical studies of the Internet Economy which has been documented in a number of leading international publications including Business Week, The Sunday Telegraph, Tendances, The Daily Telegraph, El Pais, among many others.

John Garcia

Former President of CDMA of Sprint

John Garcia has spent 31 years in the high tech telecom industry as a recognized leader of innovation and successful general management. He has been one of the driving forces in the explosive growth in wireless voice and data with global leaders in the telecom industry. Most recently he was President of Sprint’s CDMA 3G Business Unit with direct responsibility for its P&L and strategic direction. While in this position he led major branding, product, and service initiatives including the “Now Network” campaign, the launch of the “Instinct” touch screen handset, the all inclusive “Simply Everything” rate plan, and the revolutionary “Ready Now” service offering.

While at Sprint, Mr. Garcia also held the position of Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for the development and execution of the company’s national marketing strategy including branding, media, sponsorships, pricing, product development, marketing research and CRM.

Previously, Garcia was senior vice president of Sprint Product Management & Development (PM&D), where he was responsible for designing, developing and managing Sprint's product lifecycle. His team's mission was to re-assert Sprint’s industry leadership in useful product innovation, giving customers what they really want.

Prior to his role as head of PM&D, Garcia served as president of Sprint’s joint venture with Comcast Corporation, Time Warner Cable, Cox Communications and Advance/Newhouse Communications. He led the effort to build a comprehensive strategy around the convergence of mobile communication, information and entertainment services.

Garcia was one of the earliest employees hired into Sprint’s Wireless group in 1995. In his first role as vice president of Marketing, he managed many of the strategies used to launch Sprint PCS into the marketplace.

Garcia then spent seven years leading Sprint’s sales organization, serving first as regional president for the Southwest Area in 1996 before he stepped up to become senior vice president of the company’s national sales organization in 1998. During this time, Sprint became the fastest company in U.S. history to reach $10 billion. Garcia maintained responsibility for business and consumer sales, including company-owned stores, national retailers, e-commerce and telesales. He also initiated the company’s MVNO wholesale strategy, leveraging the strengths of other companies in a mutually profitable way. Sprint now leads the industry with MVNOs, including partnerships with Virgin Mobile, Qwest and Embarq.

Prior to joining Sprint, Garcia was regional president for GTE Mobilnet (acquired by Verizon). Earlier in his career, Garcia held a variety of management positions within AT&T’s Consumer Products Group. John serves on several civic and philanthropic boards. He graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Marketing, he and his wife Mari Lynn have a daughter and live in Leawood Kansas.

David Bent

CIO, United Stationers Supply Company (USSCO)

David Bent is Sr. Vice President & Chief Information Officer United Stationers Supply Company, and President United Stationers Technology Services. United Stationers, with headquarters in Deerfield, Illinois, is North America’s largest wholesale distributor of office products. With sales of $5.0 billion, the company offers some 100,000 brand-name items from more than 1000 manufacturers, as well as its own private-brand merchandise line. He joined United Stationers in May 2003 and leads a team of 220 IT associates.

Before joining United Stationers, he was Corporate Vice President, Chief Information Officer, and General Manager, Software Division, Acterna LLC. Acterna is a $1 Billion telecommunication test equipment and services company with operations in 32 countries. He was responsible for all Information Technology initiatives across Acterna’s global operations. In October 2002, he took on additional responsibility as General Manager of Acterna’s Software Division. In this role, he had profit and loss accountability for Acterna’s software products that are marketed to leading telecommunication and cable television industry service providers.

Prior to joining Acterna in August 2000, he was Chief Information Officer, Visteon Automotive Systems, a position he was appointed to in early 1999. He was responsible for all Information Technology activities across Visteon’s $19 Billion global operations, which employed over 800 IT personnel supporting 80,000 Visteon employees. In this role, he was named “InformationWeek CIO of the Year, 1999” (See www.informationweek.com/764/chief.htm )

Between 1982 and his role as CIO at Visteon, he spent 17 years with Ford Motor Company. His Ford career began in the UK where he spent four years in various positions in the Product Development Information Technology Group. In 1986, he moved to Ford in Germany where he lived for 11 years prior to moving to Ford’s global headquarters in the USA in 1997. Highlights of his career with Ford include the following:

  • Led a global team of Designers and IT associates in the development of an all new automotive styling system in partnership with Japanese and American software firms that reduced new vehicle development time by twelve months.
  • In 1994 he was a member of the “Ford 2000” Transition Team (a team of 150 senior leaders from Ford’s worldwide operations), which led the strategy work to define Ford’s transition to a global operation.
  • From 1995 to 1997 he was head of Information Technology for Ford’s Product Development Operations in Europe, reporting to the Vice-President, European Vehicle Center.

David Bent was born in Nantwich, Cheshire, England, in 1960 and is a graduate of Bristol University, where he gained a BSc. (Hons.) Degree in Civil Engineering in 1982. Having worked 11 years in Germany, Mr Bent is a fluent German speaker. He is a member of InformationWeek magazine’s Advisory Board.

He is an avid Formula 1 motor racing fan, and also plays golf. He is married and lives with his wife and twin daughters in Glen Ellyn, Illinois, USA.
