IOCOM Deployed by Fort Bragg Schools for Regions Rapid Base Realignment Growth

Video conferencing solution offers flexible, powerful distance learning tool for teachers, administration, and burgeoning military family population

CHICAGO – January 29, 2010 – IOCOM, a leading software provider for enterprise-class video conferencing capabilities, announced that the Fort Bragg BRAC Regional Task Force, the planning committee for the 11 county, 77 municipality greater Fort Bragg region, has adopted IOCOM’s video conferencing solution for its 11 regional high schools as well as Fayetteville Technical Community College. BRAC RTF schools will use IOCOM’s software for convenient distance learning, teacher collaboration, teacher training, and administrative meetings, sparing overcrowded classroom conditions and paring expensive, dangerous travel.

The distance learning initiative, funded by an $800,000 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act grant won by the State of North Carolina, will equip 12 high schools with video telepresence, HD cameras, SMART boards, an i3D theater, and connectivity with a distributive learning network via the Internet. Recipients of this technology will be: West Bladen High School, Pine Forest High School, E.E. Smith High School, Overhills High School, Hoke County High School, Southern Lee High School, East Montgomery High School, Union Pines High School, Richmond Senior High School, Lumberton High School, Lakewood High School and Scotland High School.

Having recently deployed the first class rooms and home students with IOCOM, BRAC RTF leaders voiced their excitement for the project. Paul Dordal, Executive Director of the BRAC RTF, commented, “High school classes at each of these schools will have this enhanced technology and videoconference capability to connect students with a subject matter expert in the region or around the world.”

The distance learning project will be managed by the BRAC RTF in partnership with their prime contractor, NAVTech. NAVTech Director Thomas Clark knew IOCOM was the only technology that could suit the requirements of the project: “NAVTech has been using IOCOM for our corporate telework and training for some time. We chose IOCOM for its conferencing power and its flexibility over computers, devices, and networks. When the BRAC RTF project was presented to my team, we knew we had the perfect technology for the task.”

About BRAC RTF

The BRAC Regional Task Force represents eleven counties and 73 municipalities that are planning and preparing for the significant impact on our communities due to the changes that will occur from the BRAC 2005 actions and other growth at Fort Bragg and Pope AFB. Over the next several years, Fort Bragg will see additional gains of 40,000 military and civilian personnel and their families as the Army moves U.S. Army Reserve Command and U. S. Army Forces Command from Fort McPherson, Ga. to Fort Bragg.  These actions require planning and preparation to maximize the benefits to our state and region. With the influx of newcomers, our schools, transportation and workforce needs will grow as will infrastructure, medical, and others. Construction of the new FORSCOM headquarters building is underway. By March, 2011, the U.S. Army Reserve Command and U. S. Army Forces Command will begin moving to Fort Bragg.  The BRAC RTF will work diligently to ensure our communities are prepared for the largest economic impact ever in this region.

IOCOM Provides State-Wide Videoconferencing, Telepresence, and Collaboration for New Mexico’s Universities

SANTA FE, N.M.

IOCOM, a leading provider of videoconferencing and collaboration solutions, was featured in today’s launch of eight “Connect New Mexico” telepresence rooms. The rooms will link learning communities across the state of New Mexico. An additional twenty five rooms will be launched in the coming weeks, allowing every university and college in the state to immersively collaborate and videoconference.

“The new teleconferencing abilities will enable our faculty to partner with the other sites statewide, and we will witness its benefits in all facets of our mission - education, research, public service, and as we saw in the demo today, patient care.”

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson keynoted the launch, lauding the rich collaboration anticipated in the project: “The opening of these gateways is significant to New Mexico’s economic and high-tech future,” Governor Richardson said. “We’re bringing the highest level of collaboration to every corner of the state, giving New Mexicans the opportunity to tap in to the state’s remarkable educational and economic possibilities.”

Today’s “Connect New Mexico” event connected eight new ‘gateway’ telepresence sites using IOCOM’s telepresence capability. The sites are:

  • The University of New Mexico
  • New Mexico State University
  • Eastern New Mexico
  • Western New Mexico University
  • New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology
  • Santa Fe Community College
  • San Juan College
  • The State Capitol

These sites will be utilized by universities and local businesses for collaborative learning, research, training, and business modeling in the areas of energy, environment, digital film, aerospace, and biotechnology, among others.

UNM President David Schmidly commented, "The new teleconferencing abilities will enable our faculty to partner with the other sites statewide, and we will witness its benefits in all facets of our mission - education, research, public service, and as we saw in the demo today, patient care."

The founding institutions for the “Connect New Mexico” program are UNM, NMSU, New Mexico Tech, and Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories. Ultimately, there will be 33 telepresence sites around the state connected by a secure network, all available to business, industry, and institutions of higher learning on a daily basis.

Working closely with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, Sandia National Labs and the State’s three research universities, the NMCAC is dedicated to serving the needs of the people of New Mexico as well as tackling some of the nation's most pressing problems like energy and the environment using high-speed computing.

The NMCAC is committed to supporting the State’s education and health initiatives as well as economic development. The Center has plans to set up 44 remote ‘Gateways’ at state universities and community colleges. Each Gateway will be connected to Encanto and to the rest of the world. IOCOM Deployed by One of Minnesota’s Largest K-12 School Regions

Video Conferencing Solution Offers Advanced Collaboration Tools to Connect MSET Teachers, Students and Administrators

CHICAGO – January 19, 2010 – IOCOM, a leading software provider for enterprise-class video conferencing capabilities, announced that the Mid-State Education District (MSET), one of Minnesota’s largest and most innovative school cooperatives, has adopted IOCOM’s video conferencing solution for its ten school districts. MSET will use IOCOM’s software for convenient distance learning, teacher collaboration, teacher training, and administrative meetings, sparing time-consuming and often dangerous travel.

MSET relishes the application of IOCOM’s multipoint, multi-resolution video conferencing capability throughout its system of over 500 teachers and administrators, as well as its 10,000 students. IOCOM’s software architecture allows MSET to reach netbook, laptop and classroom users from school, home or administrative offices. IOCOM’s standards-based connectivity allows MSET to tie in its existing video conferencing resources as well as the region’s phone and messaging system.

MSET’s chief technology officer, Charlie Diebel, is excited about the IOCOM technology, stating: “The more my colleagues and I use the software, the more impressed we are. We couldn’t believe the mix of powerful video capabilities, device flexibility, and the ease of use. My Districts clamor for it.”

By providing courses at both the high school and college levels via interactive television (ITV) in conjunction with Central Lakes College, St. Cloud State University and East Central Minnesota Educational Cable Cooperative (ECMECC), MSET is offering students opportunities that would normally be unavailable to them through traditional classroom instruction. By doing so, MSET supports the local school districts by allowing them to retain students that would otherwise be forced to leave the district for educational opportunities elsewhere.

“It’s always rewarding to work with an innovative organization like MSET that is enhancing the lives of literally thousands of children through its educational programs,” said Michael Galich, CEO and co-founder of IOCOM. “IOCOM’s multi-faceted communications system is a perfect fit for the teachers, students and administrators who use video conferencing and collaboration in a wide variety of situations.”

About MSET

Mid-State Education District (MSET) is one of 15 regional service centers and technology hubs for Minnesota’s public school system. It is known for its robust, 150-mile fiber optic network, the largest education network in the state. MSET is also the central intake point for all Early Childhood referrals for all schools in Morrison County, working to coordinate and deliver special education and related services to children and youth (ages birth to 21 years) including referral, identification, consultation, direct service, and transition planning. MSET receives referrals from a number of sources including doctors, public health, day care providers, teachers and parents.
