"Learning went high-tech this week. On Tuesday Brad Darnall, seventh grade social studies teacher at Calloway County Middle School, linked his class to a video conference with Dr. Julia Heath, professor and chair of economics in the Fogelman College of Business of Economics at the University of Memphis.
"Darnall said a video conference was a great way of helping students to learn by allowing them to have contact with leaders and experts around the world.
"'There was no way possible, with time frames and distances, that this could have happened without the use of a video conference. By doing this we can collaborate with people around the world. With the click of a button we can bring experts from any field into our classroom,' he said."

The Calloway County Middle School is a participating school in the IOCOM Removing Boundaries Project. At the end of last year, IOCOM invited a small group of K-12 schools to submit a one-page proposal for a distance learning project. The Removing Boundaries Project offer included free software and support for the duration of the project. IOCOM also offered use of special equipment that might be needed for the project.
