December 22, 2007 // Chicago – IOCOM announces availability of a multi-display, multi-camera Tele-presence room for under $60,000. The IOCOM “Grid Room” comes complete with three 60 inch plasmas and up to four pan-tilt-zoom cameras running various video codecs including hi-definition video. The IOCOM Grid or “IG” solution employs a software and server architecture and has a familiar Windows interface that allows for easy meeting access via a LDAP based presence engine. IOCOM keeps costs well below the prevailing market leaders such as HP’s Halo and Cisco’s Telepresence System by making use of off the shelf audio-visual components. The IG also runs over any standard IP network including wireless, satellite, VPN, broadband cellular, and even the Public Internet which also adds to the cost advantages of the solution. The IG is also the only system on the market to offer seamless connectivity to desktop endpoints and telephony (VoIP, PSTN) systems as well. Other features that come with the IOCOM “Grid Room” include web conferencing, file share, chat, presence engine, distributed whiteboard, phone dial in and out, and record and play back.
The IG is not based on a telephony model like most traditional VTC systems or even the current offerings of tele-presence rooms. The IG does not initiate a “video call” like these systems but rather establishes multi-point video and audio “meetings” through the simple mouse click on an available presence based colleague or site. This colleague can be off site at his home office or in a room based system that is “on net”. The IG does not discriminate when it comes to what type of end point can be brought into a meeting. Ultra mobile PC’s, laptops, desktops and room based systems can all join in meetings simultaneously, no matter what type of bandwidth they may be connected to. The IG also employs your more traditional method of scheduling a meeting through the IGScheduler. The IGScheduler is integrated with MS Outlook and Lotus Notes for easy calendar placement. Also available to IG users are “Virtual Rooms” which can be created for your special projects that meet at the same time every week for a lengthy period of time.
