The NHS in the East of England won the 'best use of telehealth and telecare' category of the E-Health Insider Awards 2010 in association with BT, sponsored by the BCS Primary Health Care Specialist Group. Its winning project was a videoconferencing-based system to deliver timely care to stroke victims; and save lives and money in the process.

The timeliness and effectiveness of initial response are crucial in assuring the positive outcome of a trauma victim. This whitepaper presents a concept to improve the effectiveness of the initial response by an EMT team and allow a doctor to assist with a trauma victim from a remote location. By providing the doctor with the tools to see the scene, communicate with the EMT specialist and monitor needed critical data, the doctor can add timely advice that may be critical in a positive patient outcome. They will also have first-hand information on the status of the victim, prior to his or her arrival at the trauma center.

The aim of the project was to widen Further Mathematics provision through effective distributed teaching and to improve the tools, technology and methods used for remote course delivery, by conducting the teaching of A-level Further Mathematics utilizing inSORS Grid technology to a local school that does not possess sufficient resources to offer it themselves.
